MiniLit

Meeting Initial Needs in Literacy.

MiniLit (Meeting Initial Needs in Literacy) is a carefully sequenced and structured program of instruction in the mechanics of learning to read. The program incorporates the key elements of early reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary development and text comprehension.

The program is suitable for Year 1 Students who have received a full year of formal schooling but who have not acquired the skills necessary to progress to Year 1 reading.

The children receive explicit instruction in a small group of four, one hour, four times a week. The scripted program introduces new skills and opportunity to review and practice these skills.  Frequent testing is administered.

At Putney referrals come through the Learning and Support Team and Placement tests are administered and children are prioritised.  The number of students placed on the program depends on the number of children who can be catered for within instructional groups. This varies each year.
