High potential and gifted education
High potential students are those whose abilities surpass those of their peers in one or more areas, including intellectual, creative, social-emotional, and physical domains. This potential can evolve into talent when identified and supported through evidence-based talent development opportunities that maximise their growth and success. Students with exceptional talents are encouraged to demonstrate their skills through various school activities and community events:
- Intellectual domain-participation in ICAS competitions in reading, mathematics, spelling and writing, Maths Olympiad team, Tournament of the Minds team, Premier’s Spelling Bee representative at regional finals, Write On competition
- Creative domain- drama ensemble performing at various drama festivals, choir, recorder ensemble, school concert band performing at school community events, Ryde Council SWAP art competition, Nagoya Sister City Art exchange, Operation Art
- Social-emotional domain-debating inter-school competitions, public speaking competitions, Peer Mediation program where senior students are trained in conflict resolution to support younger students on the playground, student counsellors representing their class at SRC
- Physical domain-representing Putney in Zone, State and National levels in swimming, cross country and athletics, PSSA representation in football, netball, softball, volleyball, cricket, Tiger-tag and representative pathways in various sports, junior and senior dance groups

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students can take part in HPGE opportunities in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
Social-emotional domain
Our students participate in competitions such as the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition which encourages primary school students to explore multiculturalism in Australia while they practice their public speaking skills and improve their confidence.
Physical domain
Students with talents in various sports are nominated to participate in Zone trials, and those who succeed may be selected for squads or teams at the Regional and State PSSA levels. Some of our former students have even launched their professional sports careers through the Primary School Sport Association.
Creative domain
Our staff source performance opportunities for talented students and groups of performers so they can showcase their talents and experience performing at world-class venues such as the Opera House.
Intellectual domain
Our high-potential students in the intellectual domain are offered numerous opportunities to challenge their thinking and showcase their talents. The ICAS Competitions and Spelling Bees are consistently popular events that students strive to excel in.
